Deadlock Halloween Update Adds Candy and Mid-Boss Change

Valve's Deadlock Halloween 2026 update runs through Nov 2, with candy cauldrons, a Sugar Rush buff, hero masks, and a reworked Mid-Boss. Here is what changes.

Valve has turned Deadlock spooky for Halloween, and the seasonal part does not last long. The Halloween 2026 update went live on Oct 30, and Valve’s Steam announcement says the festivities are available in game now through Nov 2, 2026. That gives players this weekend to try the candy system before it disappears.

Candy cauldrons and the Sugar Rush buff

The headline addition is the Halloween Cauldron. As you move through the streets of Manhattan during a match, Valve says you will come across bubbling cauldrons with a tempting display of treats. Break one with a Heavy Melee to pick up a piece of candy, which you can stash in your pocket for later. Eat it when you need it to gain the temporary Sugar Rush buff, which Valve describes as a boost of energy.

That creates a small decision in every match. Do you eat the candy right away for the Sugar Rush buff, or hold it for a fight where the extra energy matters more? Valve’s notes do not spell out the exact Sugar Rush numbers, so treat the buff as a short term lift, not a win condition on its own. The smarter play is to grab candy when you pass a cauldron anyway, since it costs a Heavy Melee and puts an option in your pocket.

Players have also reported a second use for candy that Valve’s official notes do not mention. According to player reports covered by TheGamer, candy can be fed to the troll under the bridge in exchange for buffs. That detail comes from players, not from Valve, so do not plan a whole strategy around it until you have seen it yourself. It is still worth knowing, because it explains why some players are hoarding candy instead of eating it.

The rest of the seasonal dressing is straightforward. The Hideout gains a spooky new look, heroes wear masks, and pumpkins appear around the map. Valve’s announcement says NYC is now littered with pumpkins and curious Halloween Cauldrons.

What the Mid-Boss rework changes

The gameplay update underneath the Halloween theme is the bigger long term change, and it starts with the Mid-Boss. Valve has reworked how the Rejuvenator works. Instead of one crystal dropping in the center of the pit, three crystals now drop in random positions around the pit. Each crystal breaks in one Heavy Melee and grants the team one Rejuvenator, so the total per Mid-Boss kill stays at three.

That sounds like a small tweak, but it changes the fight in three ways. First, one player can no longer swoop in and steal a single central crystal as easily, because the reward is spread out. Second, the full heal for breaking a Rejuvenator now applies to each crystal, where it previously applied only on the first hit. Third, the player who breaks a crystal now gets a bounty of 500, plus 9 per minute. The crystals also take 7.5 seconds to drop, up from 6 seconds, so teams have a little more time to position before the reward appears.

The Mid-Boss itself is also tougher. Valve raised its health by 20 percent, raised its health gained per minute by 20 percent, and made resistance reductions only 50 percent as effective against it. Its roar now happens at 25 percent health instead of 50 percent, and its bounty dropped from 3,000, plus 50 per minute, to 1,500, plus 25 per minute. The pit has more terrain and cover as well.

Comebacks, healing, and ranked

Elsewhere in the patch, Valve made comeback mechanics a little stronger. Haunted Souls now secure 25 percent slower, but the secure rate can become up to 50 percent faster than baseline when your team is behind on net worth, reaching its maximum at a 20 percent gap. Comeback gold from non-hero sources rose from a maximum of 26 percent to 30 percent when behind by about 20 percent net worth. Healing Snacks now heal 14 percent of max health, up from 10 percent.

One roster change matters for ranked players. Valve says the latest six heroes are no longer categorized as new, which means they now have normal hero unlocking requirements for ranked and can now be banned. If you have been counting on one of those heroes being unbannable, that protection is gone.

The patch also touches 34 heroes and 38 items, according to the full notes, so this article does not try to list every number. The changes above are the ones most likely to change how your next few matches feel: candy in your pocket, a split Rejuvenator, a tougher Mid-Boss, and stronger comeback tools when you fall behind.

What to do before Nov 2

Play at least one match to see the cauldrons, masks, and Hideout dressing while they are live. Break cauldrons when you pass them, hold at least one candy for a fight, and talk with your team about who breaks which Rejuvenator crystal before you start the Mid-Boss. After Nov 2, the Halloween dressing goes away, but the Mid-Boss rework and the balance changes stay.

Game Beacon recently covered Deadlock’s Violet hero release and its record concurrent player count. The difference this time is the deadline: the candy, masks, and pumpkins are here for the weekend only.
