Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced gets its last big content drop tomorrow. Title Update 1.0.8 adds New Game+, a Nightmare difficulty you can set separately for combat, stealth, naval and activities, restored takedown animations from the 2013 original, and a fresh set of hidden community chests. Ubisoft says it is the final major content update for the remake, with smaller quality of life patches to follow over the coming months.
One thing to clear up first. Ubisoft’s own news post about the patch went up on October 26 and describes it as “live now,” but the official patch notes Ubisoft posted on Steam the same day give a firm time: October 27 at 14:00 UTC, on all platforms. Here is what that means where you are.
Black Flag Resynced 1.0.8 release time and download size
- US: 7 AM PT, 9 AM CT, 10 AM ET on Tuesday, October 27
- UK: 2 PM GMT
- Central Europe: 3 PM CET
Download sizes from Ubisoft’s patch notes:
- Xbox Series X|S: 15.5 GB
- PS5: 4.5 GB
- PC: 4.3 GB
- Steam: 2.1 GB
Xbox players have by far the biggest download, which is normal for this game: every recent Black Flag Resynced patch has been around 15 GB on Series X|S. Leave the console in rest mode with automatic updates on and it should be ready when you are. The separate “PC” figure is for Ubisoft Connect, which Ubisoft labeled by name in the 1.0.7 notes.
What carries over into New Game+
New Game+ restarts Edward’s story while keeping most of what you have built. According to the patch notes, you keep:
- All of Edward’s tools, upgrades, unlocked weapons and trinkets
- All Jackdaw upgrades, unlocked officer abilities and pets
- Your money, materials and trade goods
- Every unlocked outfit and its customization options
- Hideout progression, perks and your art collection
- Every Kenway Fleet ship
- Codex items, including treasure maps you found or completed
- Anything you bought from the store
What resets
The story starts over from the beginning, and Ubisoft calls out three things that do not come with you. Quest related items are removed from your inventory. Your officers keep their unlocked abilities but are not physically on the ship, so you have to recruit them again. And the map’s fog resets, which means taking every fort over again, even though your Kenway Fleet ships stay yours.
You can loop up to New Game+ 5 (Ubisoft writes it as “New Game+++++”). Each cycle adds another difficulty modifier: Elite Soldiers show up more often and max rank ships start patrolling the seas.
Escudos, the new New Game+ currency
New Game+ runs earn Escudos from challenges and from looting chests you already opened on an earlier run. You can also trade Reales for Escudos at the General Store, and Escudos buy outfits and items that are exclusive to New Game+. Older items keep their Reales prices. Our takeaway: since your Reales carry over and can be converted, there is no reason to blow your savings tonight before the patch lands.

Nightmare difficulty, category by category
Nightmare can be switched on at any point in the story, and each category is set on its own in the Difficulty Tuning menu. So you can run Nightmare sword fights with a gentler stealth setting, or the reverse. Here is what each one changes:
- Combat: enemies deal 1.8x damage, parry timing is tighter, the white glint warning on enemy attacks is gone, ranged enemies fire more often, and the one shot kill safety is disabled.
- Stealth: detection is much faster, searches last longer, enemies hear you when you move faster than a walk, and you must be at least 6 meters above a guard to stay hidden on a high perch instead of 4.
- Naval: all ship damage is increased.
- Activities: sharks hit harder underwater, urchin and jellyfish damage is doubled, oxygen drains faster, and harpooned wildlife deals more damage.
Ubisoft calls the one shot kill change the most impactful one. With it off, a single bullet or explosive can kill Edward from full health, so if you only want one Nightmare setting, start with stealth before combat.
Everything else in Title Update 1.0.8
- Takedowns from the original game return: hidden blade, unarmed, single sword and gunblade variations.
- New cosmetics: outfits, sails, crew customization, trinkets and pet skins, many earned through New Game+.
- New hidden community chests: six of them, per Ubisoft News, some with rewards the community asked for. Ubisoft says these are harder to find than earlier ones and it will not give hints.
- Fixes: offline mode launch failures after losing connection, a freeze in tavern board games, fast travel to unsynced viewpoints in Havana and Long Bay, more rogue waves in storms, and a list of quest soft locks including “This Tyro Captain” and “We Demand a Parley.”
What comes after
This is the end of big content for the remake, which launched July 9. In a separate Steam post, Ubisoft said Head of Content Jean Guesdon will share a franchise update on Thursday, October 29, with no major reveals planned. If you missed the story beat the remake left out, our look at Black Flag Resynced’s cut post credits scene covers it.
