Capcom just had the biggest first half in its history for game sales, and the list of what sold tells a story of its own. The publisher’s earnings for the six months ended September 30, 2026, published today, show 36.86 million units sold, up from 23.85 million a year ago. Capcom calls it its highest ever total for a first half.
Money followed. Net sales rose 49% to 120.9 billion yen, and operating profit climbed 54.5% to 60.8 billion yen. That means Capcom kept roughly half of every yen it brought in as operating profit.
The ten best sellers
Capcom’s own ranking of unit sales between April and September looks like this, with lifetime totals in brackets:
- Resident Evil 4: 3.54 million (17.15 million)
- PRAGMATA: 2.73 million (2.73 million)
- Resident Evil 2: 2.06 million (20.38 million)
- Devil May Cry 5: 1.83 million (14.78 million)
- Onimusha: Way of the Sword: 1.78 million (1.78 million)
- Resident Evil Requiem: 1.59 million (8.51 million)
- Resident Evil 3: 1.56 million (14.93 million)
- Resident Evil 7 biohazard: 1.47 million (18.87 million)
- Resident Evil Village: 1.33 million (16.27 million)
- Monster Hunter: World: 1.17 million (30.83 million)
Six of the ten are Resident Evil games, and the 2023 remake of Resident Evil 4 outsold everything, including two brand new releases. Capcom says the new entry pulls players back to older ones, and that price promotions helped. Resident Evil Requiem, which launched in February, is now at 8.51 million copies. The whole series sits at 218 million.
Onimusha’s fast start and a quiet win for PRAGMATA
Onimusha: Way of the Sword only launched on September 4, so its 1.78 million copies came in less than four weeks of the reporting window. For a series that had been dormant for 20 years, that is a strong opening. PRAGMATA, a brand new IP that arrived in April, finished second overall. Both scored 85 on Metacritic for PS5, per Capcom’s own slides. We covered how close PRAGMATA came to being a horror game earlier this month.
Where is Monster Hunter Wilds?
The most interesting name is the one missing. Monster Hunter Wilds did not make the top ten, while Monster Hunter: World, a game from January 2018, sold 1.17 million copies in the same six months. Capcom is betting on a second wind: Wilds comes to Switch 2 on December 4, 2026, and a free Switch 2 demo is already out. A Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance release is listed for 2027.
What else the report shows
- 92.4% of units sold were digital, and PC alone accounted for 57.1%, or 21.03 million units.
- Older catalog games made up 32.18 million of the 36.86 million total.
- Capcom kept its full year forecast of 210 billion yen in net sales and 83 billion yen in operating profit, and a target of 65 million units.
- Upcoming dates in the slides include Mega Man: Dual Override in spring 2027 and Resident Evil Veronica in 2027.
Our take
Capcom has already banked about 73% of its full year operating profit target with half the year still to go, and it chose not to raise the forecast. With Wilds on Switch 2 and the Resident Evil remakes now on Switch 2, that forecast looks cautious. The bigger lesson is that Capcom’s back catalog is doing the heavy lifting, and that a remake from 2023 can still be the best selling game of the half.
