GTA 6 Needs a 210 GB Download on PS5, and Pre-Load Starts November 12

PlayStation Store data lists GTA 6 at a 210 GB download on PS5, with pre-load opening November 12. Here is what that means for your console and how to make room before the November 19 launch.

Start clearing space now. Grand Theft Auto VI is listed at a 210 GB download on PS5, according to PlayStation Store data shared on October 27 by the tracking account PlayStation Game Size. Insider Gaming says it can corroborate the figure, and Eurogamer has since picked it up. Rockstar Games has not announced a file size itself.

GTA 6 PS5 download size and pre-load date

Here is what the same store listing shows:

  • Download size: 210 GB
  • Pre-load: November 12
  • Release: November 19
  • Unlock: midnight
  • Standard Edition: $79.99

That gives PS5 owners a full week to download before launch. The listing does not say whether a day one patch is already included, so the real total on launch night could end up higher. No Xbox Series X|S size has surfaced yet, and Rockstar still has not confirmed a PC version.

What 210 GB means for your PS5

The launch PS5 has an 825 GB SSD with about 667 GB of usable space. GTA 6 alone would take nearly a third of that. For comparison, Phantom Blade Zero, which we covered at about 135 GB on PS5, is roughly 75 GB smaller.

A few things worth doing before November 12:

  • Check your space: go to Settings, then Storage, then Console Storage to see what is free.
  • Aim for about 250 GB free: 210 GB plus headroom for a launch patch and the updates that follow.
  • Move, do not delete: PS5 games can sit on a USB extended storage drive to save a redownload, but they have to be copied back to the internal SSD or an M.2 drive to play. PS4 games can be played straight from USB.
  • Turn on Rest Mode downloads: under Power Saving, allow internet access in Rest Mode so the pre-load can finish overnight.

The bigger launch picture

The pre-load window opens during a busy stretch for Rockstar. Take-Two reports earnings on November 9, and Rockstar’s UK staff begin a union recognition vote on November 12, the same day the download opens. The game itself arrives November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, following the launch trailer Rockstar released this month.

Our take: 210 GB is about what a game this dense should cost in storage, and a week of pre-load is generous. The number to watch is the day one patch. If Rockstar stacks a large update on top, launch PS5 owners with a couple of big games installed will be the ones scrambling on November 19, so clear the space early rather than on launch night.
