Quick answer: Sony’s new Prism Collection brings transparent DualSense controllers and matching PS5 console covers in three colors: Flare Orange, Emerald Green and Graphite Gray. Controllers cost $84.99 and covers cost $74.99 in the US. Pre-orders open Tuesday, November 10 at 9 AM CT (10 AM ET, 7 AM PT), and the collection launches February 4, 2027. Sony revealed it on the PlayStation Blog on October 28.
Prism Collection prices
- DualSense wireless controller (any Prism color): $84.99 / £74.99 / €84.99 / ¥12,480
- PS5 console covers (any Prism color): $74.99 / £64.99 / €74.99 / ¥9,980
Those are the same prices Sony charged for the Marvel’s Wolverine Limited Edition DualSense and covers this fall, so the see-through finish does not carry an extra premium over Sony’s other special editions.
How to pre-order, and the catch with the covers
In the US, pre-orders start on November 10 at 9 AM CT through PlayStation Direct, and the controllers will also be sold at participating retailers. The covers are different. Sony says they are sold exclusively direct from PlayStation where that store exists (the US, UK, France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Spain, Portugal and Italy), and only in limited quantities through select retailers elsewhere. In Europe, pre-orders open at 10 AM local time on the same day.
That matters because PlayStation Direct exclusives tend to go fast. When the Wolverine covers went up for pre-order on August 19, PlayStation Direct soon listed all three sets as sold out. If you want a cover, be signed in with your payment and address saved before 9 AM CT.
One open question: Sony’s announcement does not say which PS5 models the covers fit. Recent collections came in separate versions for the PS5 Slim and PS5 Pro, so check the exact model on the listing before you check out.
What the three colors look like
Sony’s Color, Material, and Finish designers Leo Cardoso and Satoshi Aoyagi say the collection brings back “the iconic see-through trend of the late ’90s.” The clear, high-gloss shell runs across the back of the controller so you can see the internals, with a metallic finish on the middle cover.
- Flare Orange: a bright orange that Sony says takes on a rosy hue where the clear layers overlap.
- Emerald Green: a deep hunter green.
- Graphite Gray: a cool, storm gray and the most subtle of the three.
Our take
Sony itself says fans have been waiting for transparent controllers to return, and pricing them in line with the Wolverine gear instead of adding a premium is the right call. The long wait is the downside: there are almost three months between pre-orders and the February 4 launch, so this is not a holiday gift unless you are happy wrapping an order confirmation. Our pick is Emerald Green, which shows off the internals best in Sony’s photos.
