Mythic Achievements are no longer an Insider test. Microsoft’s October 2026 console update started rolling out to all Xbox players on October 28, and it is one of the biggest dashboard drops in a while: Mythic Achievements, a startup animation picker, local search, better Remote Play and more.

The official Xbox release notes list the update as OS version 10.0.26100.9647 with a release date of October 28, 2026. To grab it now, go to Settings > System > Updates.

What Mythic Achievements are

A Mythic Achievement is Xbox’s answer to a Platinum trophy. According to Xbox Wire, you earn one when you complete all of a game’s original achievements. Achievements added later through DLC or updates are not required, and once a game hits Mythic status, it stays that way.

The best part is that it counts your past. Microsoft says Mythic Achievements are applied retroactively to eligible games you have already completed, including Xbox 360 titles. Plenty of players on X are already finding dozens of Mythics waiting on their profiles today.

Your profile also gets a new Gaming tab that shows your achievements, your next Gamerscore milestone badge and your completed games, with Mythics marked by a heroic frame. Each game’s achievement list now has a progress bar toward Mythic, and later achievements are tagged “add-on” so you know what counts.

Everything else in the October update

  • Startup animations: pick the boot animation you want, with options spanning Xbox One through the current generation. Find it in Settings > System > Startup.
  • Local search: search inside My games & apps, official club achievement lists and your achievement history.
  • Remote Play: streaming from your console now supports up to 1440p with higher bitrates on supported devices.
  • Cloud Gaming: downloads can keep going in the background while you stream a game.
  • Disc to digital licensing and saves: the release notes add new options for disc to digital game licenses and for managing local game saves.
  • Home and profile: more control over your Home screen and more detail on your badges, plus bug fixes.

Our take

Xbox players have asked for a completion reward for years, and Microsoft made the smart call by backdating it. Rewarding twenty years of 360 and Xbox One grinding on day one is a much better launch than starting everyone at zero. The “original achievements only” rule matters too, since it means a new DLC pack can never take your Mythic away.

If you have not checked yet, update your console, open your profile and look at the new Gaming tab. You may already have more Mythics than you think.
