Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is out now worldwide on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. Activision confirmed the launch on October 23 in its official Call of Duty blog, a week after campaign early access opened for digital pre-orders.

Unlike the last two Black Ops games, this one does not launch on Game Pass, so most players will be paying full price tonight. Here is what you get and what it costs.

Price and platforms

The Standard Edition costs $69.99 on Steam, and the game is also sold on Battle.net, PlayStation Store, Xbox and the Nintendo eShop. Activision has said Modern Warfare 4 is a standalone release and will not join Game Pass until Holiday 2027, so subscribers have to buy it to play now. There is no PS4 or Xbox One version.

What is in the launch package

The campaign picks up with Captain Price on the run while war breaks out on the Korean Peninsula. Critics were kind to it during early access, and our roundup of the first campaign reviews found GameSpot calling it the best since Modern Warfare 2019.

Multiplayer launches with 20 maps:

  • 12 new 6v6 maps
  • 4 Gunfight maps
  • 3 Ground War maps
  • Kill Block, a new modular training facility

DMZ, the extraction mode, drops players into the Hajin Exclusion Zone. Anyone who played the DMZ early access keeps their progress, since nothing reset at launch.

Vault Edition and the Valor Pack

The Vault Edition adds the Hostile Alliance Operator Pack with skins for Price, Valeria, Ghost and Blix, a Special Forces pack with local voice lines, five Signature weapons, the Hunter Killer skin, a DMZ Deployment Bonus and one season of BlackCell. Standard owners can upgrade later on the same platform.

Activision also released the C.O.D.E. Valor Pack today, made with Medal of Honor recipient Kyle Carpenter. All of Activision’s net proceeds go to the Call of Duty Endowment, which helps veterans find jobs.

Season 1 and Warzone

Season 1 starts November 6. That is when Modern Warfare 4 integrates with Warzone, bringing the new Hajin battle royale map, MW4 weapons and Operators, and the Battle Pass. It also ends Warzone support on PS4 and Xbox One.

Where to play

If you would rather stream it, Modern Warfare 4 is also on GeForce NOW from day one. On Steam, early players have rated it Very Positive so far, a strong start after Black Ops 7’s rocky reception.

Our take: a better campaign, a full DMZ and a day one Switch 2 version make this the most complete Call of Duty launch in years. The real test is whether multiplayer holds up once the crowds arrive this weekend.
