Quick answer: The next Elder Scrolls game is called The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel, and it is set in Hammerfell, home of the Redguards. Bethesda revealed the name on November 3, 2026 in its 40th anniversary video and a short teaser. There is no gameplay, release date or platform list yet, and Bethesda says it will be “some time” before it shares more. Current as of November 3, 2026.

After eight years of a logo and a mountain range, Bethesda has finally named its next Elder Scrolls game. Studio head Todd Howard revealed The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel at the end of a video celebrating 40 years of Bethesda Game Studios, and Bethesda posted a separate teaser on X at the same time. Xbox Wire’s post on the news is just the logo.

What Bethesda actually showed

The teaser is about a minute long. The camera drifts over wind blown sand until an Elder Scroll is uncovered in a desert, and light from the scroll carves out the Sentinel logo. It closes on a quote credited to “Yazar, Moth Priest to High Queen Iradne of Hammerfell (4E 206)”:

“The scroll offered only a shimmer, a veil thinly lifted to my eyes. A future lost. A victory undone. Sands of time scattered by fate.”

Bethesda Game Studios wrote on X: “Development continues, and while it’ll be some time before we’re ready to share more, it feels great to finally reveal the name and location with you.” According to The Verge, Howard called it the “perfect time” to name the game. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma congratulated the team on X, calling Sentinel “the next chapter of The Elder Scrolls.”

What we know and what we don’t

  • Confirmed: the full title, the logo, and the setting. The quote names Hammerfell, and Bethesda says it revealed “the name and location.”
  • Confirmed: development is ongoing, and more information is not coming soon.
  • Not announced: release date or window, platforms, gameplay, price, and story details.
  • Reported, not confirmed: The Verge reports the story will focus on the history of the Elder Scrolls themselves. Bethesda has not said this.

Why Sentinel and Hammerfell matter

Sentinel is a major port city in Hammerfell, the desert province southwest of Skyrim where the Redguards live. Fans have been there before: Sentinel was part of the Iliac Bay in The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall, Redguard (1998) took place on Hammerfell’s island of Stros M’Kai, and Sentinel is a big city in The Elder Scrolls Online’s Alik’r Desert.

The date on the quote is the most interesting detail. 4E 206 is five years after Skyrim, which takes place in 4E 201. In Skyrim’s backstory, Hammerfell refused the peace treaty that ended the Great War and left the Empire to keep fighting the Aldmeri Dominion on its own. That makes it a natural place for a story about a “victory undone.” Moth Priests are the scholars who read Elder Scrolls, so the teaser points straight at the scrolls being central to the plot.

How long the wait has been

Bethesda first teased The Elder Scrolls VI at E3 in June 2018, so today’s name comes almost eight and a half years later. Skyrim turns 15 on November 11. With no gameplay shown yet, a release window does not look close.

While you wait, Oblivion Remastered’s latest Switch 2 patch fixed the visual downgrade, and the Emperor’s voice in the opening is still Sir Patrick Stewart’s original performance.
