Quick answer: GTA 6 pre-loading starts Tuesday, November 10 for digital pre-orders, two days earlier than the November 12 date on many order forms. On PS5 it opens at midnight local time on November 10. On Xbox Series X|S it opens at 12 a.m. GMT on November 10, which is 7 p.m. ET, 6 p.m. CT and 4 p.m. PT on Monday, November 9 in the US. Clear up to 212 GB. The game launches November 19. Current as of November 3, 2026.

Rockstar Games has confirmed exact pre-load times for Grand Theft Auto VI, and the news is good if you bought digitally. Pre-loading now opens on November 10, not November 12, giving you nine days to get the download done before launch on November 19.

GTA 6 pre-load times by console

  • PS5 (digital): Tuesday, November 10 at midnight in your local time zone. That is a rolling start, so players in the Eastern and Pacific time zones each unlock at their own midnight.
  • Xbox Series X|S (digital): one global start at Tuesday, November 10, 12 a.m. GMT. In the US that means Monday, November 9 at 7 p.m. ET, 6 p.m. CT, 5 p.m. MT and 4 p.m. PT.
  • Code in box (both consoles): retailers should have these from November 12, so you can pre-load once you redeem the code.
  • Launch: Thursday, November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

In short, Xbox players in the Americas get the earliest start, several hours before anyone on PS5 in the same region.

How much space GTA 6 needs

Rockstar says the pre-load file “will require up to 212 GB depending on your device.” The PlayStation Blog tells PS5 owners to clear a minimum of 212 GB. That is slightly higher than the 210 GB PS5 figure we reported last week, and the final install can differ from the pre-load size once day one patches arrive, so leave some headroom.

The original 825 GB PS5 has about 667 GB of usable space, the 1 TB PS5 Slim has about 848 GB and a 1 TB Xbox Series X has about 802 GB, so GTA 6 alone takes a quarter to a third of a base console. On Xbox Series S, which has about 364 GB free, it will use more than half the drive.

How to get ready this week

  • Pre-order the digital version you want before November 10. Only pre-orders can pre-load.
  • Delete or move large games now. On Xbox, older games can live on a USB drive. On PS5, PS5 games can be stored on a USB drive but must run from internal or M.2 storage.
  • Leave your console in Rest Mode (PS5) or with automatic updates on (Xbox) so the download continues overnight.
  • Check your download speed. At 100 Mbps, 212 GB takes about five hours in ideal conditions, and launch week servers will be busy.

Rockstar also posted a pre-load FAQ on its support site for anything else, including how to check your pre-order status.
