Monster Hunter Outlanders is out now on iOS and Android. TiMi Studio Group, working under license from Capcom, launched the game today, Oct 29, bringing full Monster Hunter hunts to phones instead of a cut down spinoff.

This is a new survival hunting action game, not a port of a console title. Players explore a new island called Aesoland, gather resources, craft gear, and take on large monsters alone or with friends. It is free to play with optional in-app purchases, according to Capcom’s description of the game.

WHAT IS IN THE GAME AT LAUNCH

Outlanders launches with eight classic weapon types: Great Sword, Long Sword, Dual Blades, Hammer, Lance, Charge Blade, Heavy Bowgun, and Bow. The Charge Blade arrives with the launch version, and it switches between Sword Mode and Axe Mode so players can balance offense and defense. TiMi says more weapon types are planned for future updates.

The island itself is the other big draw. Aesoland has its own ecosystem, and its Radiant Species are monsters changed by the island’s environment. The press release names the original Elder Dragon Ruger Aidal, described as shining like a blazing sun, as the launch headliner. Radiant monsters are not just recolored versions of familiar fights. They behave differently because of the Radiantite that changed them, so even veteran hunters will need to learn new patterns.

Hunts work solo or in a squad of up to four players. Three Buddies join the adventure as well: Palico, Rutaco, and Trillan, each with their own personality. Controller support is in from day one for the major hunting actions, covering hunts, the quest system, and world exploration. TiMi says support will expand to more areas of the game in later updates.

WHAT THE LAUNCH EVENTS GIVE PLAYERS

The first month is front loaded with rewards, and the timing matters. Two Midori events start today: “Flowing Maple Melody,” a hunting challenge event featuring the Long Sword Adventurer Midori, and “A Melody Echoing Through the Maples,” which lets players try Midori out. Across the launch calendar, players can earn enough recruitment items for more than 400 recruitment attempts in total.

The Adventurer’s Guild Campaign runs from Oct 29 to Nov 30. It asks players to team up with friends and level up their guilds, and once the combined levels of all guilds across all servers reach the set milestone, every player unlocks the “Let’s Set Off” sticker and honorary title. TiMi is also running The Great Hunt, a special livestream showcase with creators and streamers, where viewers can win bonus in-game codes and physical prizes. Details and schedules will come through the game’s official X account.

WHY IT MATTERS

Monster Hunter has already proved it can work on phones, but Outlanders is aiming at something different from the location based Monster Hunter Now. This is the full loop: explore a large field, track a monster, fight it with a classic weapon, and craft better gear from what it drops, all on a device most players already own. Controller support at launch closes much of the gap with console play, and the four player squads keep the series’ cooperative core intact. There are two caveats worth knowing before downloading. The mainland China version is on a separate schedule, planned for 2027 or later, so this launch covers the international release. And as with any free to play launch, server load and store rollout can vary by region on day one, so check the official App Store or Google Play listing for your account if the game does not appear right away.

For players who have been waiting for a proper Monster Hunter on mobile, today is the day to start. The launch events reward early players heavily, the Charge Blade gives returning hunters something new to learn, and Ruger Aidal is waiting on Aesoland.
